The sink plug is becoming increasingly attractive and functional

When in the process of designing bathroom furnishings, our attention is often and quite naturally focused on the choice of surface coverings, sanitaryware and furniture. It is only at a later point that we start to consider tapware and other accessories. Technical accessories are often overlooked but, in the overall bathroom design process, these details make the difference.

A perfect example is that of the drainpipe serving a washbasin or a bidet, an extremely technical and functional element that risks standing out like a sore thumb in a designer bathroom, if the sanitary ware and washbasin are wall-hung. The choice of a lowered drainpipe in the former case or a decorative one in the latter is a possible solution to this aesthetic dilemma.

Sink plugs that are becoming more and more attractive…

Even the sink plug for the washbasin and bidet, and the drain waste cover for the shower tray or bathtub are elements that are increasingly viewed as an important finishing touch, rather than mere technical accessories. In fact, in the course of time, what used to be viewed as an ordinary “plug” has undergone an authentic evolution in aesthetic and technical terms.

As far as looks go, sink plugs and drain waste covers come in several shapes, round or square, and with a range of finishes that goes far beyond traditional chrome plating. When coordinating the bathroom sink plug with the tapware, it is possible to choose between a gilt, bronze-plated or brushed finish. One alternative that has met with great success is the ceramic drain stopper made to match the colour of the sanitaryware, whether white or coloured, glossy or matt.

… and functional

Down through the years the sink plug has also been renewed thanks to innovative opening and closing systems. Usually regulated by the lift rod of the mixer tap (the rod connecting the tap to the sink plug), it can now also be managed by simply pressing down on the click clack sink plug. This solution is very useful, especially when you wish to install a countertop, wall-mounted or freestanding mixer tap, because it eliminates the presence of the rather unattractive rod.

The sink plug with integrated overflow is even more innovative: in this case, the sink plug for the bathroom washbasin compensates the lack of an overflow on some washbasin models, which on the contrary, is mandatory for the bidet. In fact, the sink plug with this integrated function opens automatically when the water level above the plug reaches 7-8 cm in height, and therefore empties the basin.

All latest generation sink plug models are comprised in the Flaminia catalogue.
