A faucet aerator is a small device placed in correspondence of head of the tap, where the water comes out. Its function is to filter the water from impurities and debris of any kind and creating a mixture of water and air.

Sometimes you may notice that the pressure of the flow of water supplied from taps decreases or comes out irregularly. The cause usually are lime scale deposits that accumulate in the aerator, blocking it. This can happen after months or years of use, depending on the water hardness of the area where you live. It is possible to clean aerators in a simple and effective way.

Remove the aerator by following the manufacturer instructions. Once removed, proceed with a first cleaning to remove small deposits due to impurities in the water, it is necessary to brush the mesh of the grids (which may be metal or plastic) that compose it.

This system however, is not particularly effective against the encrusted limestone, for which one must act with more targeted solutions, such as soaking the aerator in vinegar for a whole day. This can be done several times, otherwise you can use the common anti-limescale products.

Before replacing the aerators rinse them thoroughly, again using a brush to remove even the last remaining deposits. If the obstructions should still resist, you can try to reopen the holes with the use of a needle.

We recommend to clean the aerators regularly as the limestone tends to recur.
