Bidet, although it may seem strange, falls under the category of bathroom fixtures not present throughout the world. Yet its history has ancient origins.
Originsof the bidet
Although today is hard to find in French houses or hotels, the bidet originated in France in the early eighteenth century, but the name of its inventor is unfortunately not known. The word “bidet” is French for “trot” and probably derives from the position to assumes to use it: in fact you sit like on a riding horse!

Around the mid-eighteenth century, the bidet came in Italy where had a large spread and evolution. It was the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to use by first this bathroom fixture and only later spread to the rest of the territory. In some historical inventories of Bourbon palace you can find a “guitar-shaped object”: was one of the first Italian bidet but most people do not yet know what it was. It was not until the early twentieth century that the bidet entered in every Italian homes and especially in the bathroom, because it was originally used in the bedroom, just like the pot.

After becoming a bathroom fixture wide used, manufacturers have begun to change the product on the basis of the needs of customers, so different models of water supply were born.
The bidet without water supply: in some holiday homes or in very old homes you can still find this type of bathroom fixture. The water came directly out from the ceramic edge by a special hole.
3 holes bidet: this type of bathroom fixture involves the installation of two knobs for adjusting water and a third for the supply. While this bidet was certainly more practical than the previous one, there was still a problem with the water adjustment, because was not easy to find the right mixture.
Single hole bidet: finally the evolution of the bidet has come to the models now installed in most homes or accommodation. The single hole, as the word itself points out, has only a hole in the ceramic into which is inserted a traditional tap, consisting of mixer and pump. This way you can adjust the temperature and the water jet with ease.
