The bathtubs material: from iron to ceramic

The bathtub is a sanitary ware used since ancient times. The bathtubs were already used at the time of the Greeks and Romans to be able to wash the noble class. Have they always been made of ceramic? We discover the different materials used for bathtubs production.

From the past to the present

Bath tubs were used since ancient times. Their presence has already been recorded since 1700 (the first testimony comes from the Knossos Palace on the island of Crete, equipped with a state-of-the-art water system). Large pools were often used as a place for socializing. The people of the lower social classes generally had iron bathtubs; the nobility, however, had bathtubs made of stone or precious materials.

Over the centuries, it passed from iron to wood and then came to ceramic, fiberglass and porcelain coatings.

Bathtub materials

Today, much more precious and resistant materials are used. Ceramica Flaminia uses high quality materials for the production of bathtubs, to offer its customers products of the highest quality. An example is the Oval line made in Pietraluce. The use of this material makes it possible to create products with a refined design and a strong character.

La versatilità dei materiali adoperati per le vasche da bagno consente di poter creare sanitari nel classico color bianco, ma anche in differenti altre gamme di colori per poter creare l’ambiente bagno che si desidera.

  • ceramic: it is a very resistant material, it allows to make long lasting creations and to use colors to make the sanitary ware more sophisticated;
  • wood: it is possible to find some wooden bathtubs to evoke the concept of nature. And again, some types of wood have antibacterial and relaxing properties;
