Anteroom is a small space that precedes the bathroom, thus isolating it correctly and hygienically from the rest of the apartment. Its function, therefore, is to work as a filter between the bathroom and the other living spaces of the house.

Mandatory ante-bathroom: what does the law says?

Municipal hygiene regulationsstate that the bathroom area must be separated from the living area or kitchen by a minimum of two doors. If there is a hallway in the house, a corridor and the rooms are equipped with a door, no further installation of doors will be required. On the other hand, if there are no dividing rooms between the bathroom and the living room, an anteroom is required.

The only exception envisaged in the regulation is when the bathroom directly overlooks the bedroom: in this case, a passageway is not mandatory and both rooms can also be close, unless the one next to the room is the main bathroom of the house.

When the anteroom is required, for the design it is necessary to follow the directives provides by the legislation (in particular, the ministerial decree n° 190 of 5 July 1975) that regulate the minimum dimensions of the anteroom.

How to furnish an ante-bathroom

There are many alternatives for creating a separate room without dealing with a an expensive renovations. For example, you can divide the sink area from the vessel and bidet area by simply creating a plasterboard wall.
