Like all other aspects of interior design, colours are affected by trends and fashion. After a prolonged period of almost exclusive hegemony of matt hues and earth tones, we are now seeing a revival of glossy and bright shades.

With the exception of the ever present total black and total white, which are timeless, colours in the bathroom make all the difference and should be chosen with great care, in that:

• they must be consistent with the style chosen for the furnishings;
• it is best to start out by establishing your colour choices for the sanitary ware and the walls and then define everything else, such as accessories, objects and textiles;
• colour intensity should be carefully selected.

The colours of the sanitary ware and the wash basin as well as the colour of the bathtub play a key role in bathroom design. For instance, you can use tones that create a contrast between the colours of the sanitary ware and those of the wall coverings and furniture, or use colours that match the décor of the tiles.

The trend at the momentis a return to bright, shiny finishes and vivid colours. Among the trendsetting colours for 2024 are shades of magenta, blue and green.
