The origins of the soap

The first findings of this product date back to 2800 b.C. in the ancient Babylon: experts found receptacles with incisions that illustrated the preparation of the soap. Also the Ancient Egyptians used natural oils for the cleaning and hygiene of body; in fact there are numerous papyruses that talk about this. Soap continues its story to the Roman era, where the bathroom was not just dedicated to the hygiene of the body but it was also considered a place where to meet new people and talk about politics.

The invention of the soap

Like many inventions, also the soap’s one is attributed to the Arabs, who created the first system of saponification by uniting caustic soda and natural oils. In 800,  after the Arabian expansion, the first soaps arrived in Spain and Sicily, and thanks to the Crusades also in Europe.

The production of artisan soap

Four were the cities that gained much relevance in the history of the production of artisan soap: Verona, Marseille, Venice and Genoa. These cities were so tied to the productions of cleansers that they have legends related to this argument. One of the most famous talks about the discover of the soap’s recipe by the wife of a fisherman, boiling olive oil with ash.

Today there are bars of soap of every form, dimension and color, for every taste or need. Somebody like to match this product to the colors of the bathroom to create a unique and refined ambient.
