The kitchen and especially the bathroom are the rooms where water consumption is highest. In this connection, a key role is played by mixers, shower columns, toilets and discharge tanks.

Surely, the mixers and the sanitary ware must be water saving type to cut down consumption, but the discharge tanks are also important. The advantages for the environment and the water bill arising from the purchase of a toilet that is flushed with less than 6 litres of water (according to the applicable EU regulations) are completely invalidated if the WC is fitted with a high tank or a flushing system with flowmeter.

Among the toilet tanks available on the market, built-in tanks with double button generally make it possible to flush the toilet with a controlled water flow and to choose between two different flush volumes: usually 3 and 6 litres.

The traditional externally mounted high tank and the flowmeter or adjustable flow valve,as aregenerally found insomewhat dated bathrooms, are two flushing systems entailing the use of a greater quantity of water, which cannot be easily controlled.
