We hardly stop to think about the origin and birth of the objects of common use, but have you ever wondered when was the toilet paper invented? It is an indispensable element in our bathrooms, but no one knows where it comes from, since it has always been there. According to some ancient documents, in the 14th Century China, the Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, was the first who used toilet paper. In Europe we need to thank Joseph Gayetty who invented this precious object.
Until that time different materials were used with this purpose such as: hay or wool, the shell of the coconut in the Caribbean and mud or snow in the Arctic. Every civilization used what nature gave to them.
Toilet paper was invented in 1857, but at the beginning it was a real failure, because people did not understand why they had to spend money when they could simply use newspaper pages. Later in 1884 Scott Brothers founded the Scottex company and started selling toilet paper as we know it today all over the world.
Thanks to the Scott brothers, now toilet paper has become a common object in any bathroom. In some circumstances it is possible to find some toilet rolls of the same colour of the furniture, because even the bathroom has become a cosy and design environment.
