The shower head: how to choose it, clean it and keep it

The choice of the shower head may seems rather easy and trivial, but functionality and comfort of the shower depend largely on the increasingly sophisticated and technological bathroom fittings to turn the moment of the bathroom into an experience of pleasure and well-being. Here are some suggestions for choosing and maintaining shower heads.

Shower head: types, positions and materials

As we already said, showerhead is the main element in shower system, which must ensure a perfect flow, comfort but also water saving. The choice of the shower head depends on the width of the box and the type of shower, as well as on the main style of the other bathroom taps. For this reason, on the market there are different types for every need of style and functionality.

We can distinguish cascade showers (with a wide and enveloping water flow), adjustable and multifunctional power showers (which allow to adjust the intensity and type of flow or even optional like nebulisation or chromotherapy) or hydromassage shower heads, which can be integrated into the multifunctional shower column.

Speaking about materials, steel and plastic are traditional choices. But recently alternative materials for shower heads – such as ceramics – are becoming popular.

The height and position of the shower head

The positioning of the shower head, of course, greatly affects comfort. The choice is very personal, but generally the options are ceiling (ideal especially for cascade showerheads) or wall mounted, the latter fixed or adjustable with latch.Regarding height, we recommend to place the shower head about 200 cm from shower tray.

How to clean the shower head

A periodic cleaning of the shower head from limescale and other impurities should not be underestimated. For a perfect result, immerse the showerhead in a solution of cold water, vinegar and bicarbonate for few hours; finally rinse by removing the residues with an old toothbrush and, if necessary, use a needle to free the blocked holes from limescale.
