For those who love modern elegance and prefer clean lines and sober rooms, the best choice is the minimalist style, in which empty space takes centre stage as a veritable furniture element and simplicity is the keynote. The minimalist style<\/strong> originated in the 1960s and its motto was \u201cLess is More\u201d, the well-known phrase pronounced with conviction by architect & designer Mies van der Rohe. This trend, which affected all the arts and therefore furniture too, emerged at the turn of the century.<\/p>\n

The minimalist style<\/strong> can come in various guises: Scandinavian, chic, industrial, but in any case the term \u201cminimalist\u201d should not make you think of a bare, stripped-down or cold atmosphere; in actual fact, if well applied, this style will often give the room a relaxing, welcoming and uncluttered character. A must in minimalism is to remove all that is redundant and ornamental. Considering that the guiding principle of this style is subtraction, when furnishing a bathroom in minimalist style<\/strong>, the first thing to keep in mind is that white is the colour par excellence.<\/p>\n

Total white, in fact, is the dominant colour for this style, but if you really do not want to give up colour, then you should consider neutral nuances, such as shades of grey for cool tones or beige for warm tones.<\/p>\n

Natural materials, such as wood, concrete, glass and steel, should be preferred. Thumbs up for bleached or natural wood and white furniture and accessories. Lighting, preferably integrated into the furniture or the architectural elements, also plays a major role, and so does natural light.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Minimalist but stylish <\/strong><\/p>\n

In the bathroom, it is essential to choose wall coverings without decorations, such as marble-effect porcelain stoneware slabs, or resin, which is a neat, uniform material. Regular, simple and pure shapes are to be preferred for sanitary ware and washbasins.<\/p>\n

  1. Light, uniform colours, predominance of white and neutral shades;<\/li>\n
  2. Linear, minimalist, geometric and simple furnishing accessories;<\/li>\n
  3. Integrated lighting, possibly concealed and with minimum visual impact;<\/li>\n
  4. Prevalence of square, geometric lines and shapes;<\/li>\n
  5. Less is more: get rid of everything superfluous and keep only what is necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
